As an online developer and consultant, I’m constantly discovering new skills. Do You Have To Pay To Teach On Skillshare… to keep up with the trade and make clients happy. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online knowing over the past five years. Typically, when I want to find out something new, I simply go to YouTube and enter a question and expect the best.
The majority of the time, I get videos taught by “specialists” with limitless ad breaks and pitches to purchase their merchandise. I mean, what else can you expect from “free courses.” Just recently, fed up with the poor quality and questionable understanding shared on totally free platforms, I turned to an online knowing platform I keep hearing so much about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality free classes, I signed up for an annual subscription (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare pricing section) and dove much deeper into the Skillshare courses offered to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this thorough evaluation. While some evaluations for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, everything you will check out comes directly from my own experience as a passionate learner.
If you are trying to find a TLDR version of this review, here it is:
The large amount of new content that is added to the platform weekly suffices to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you want to get a new skill to make your resume shine, change your home, or master a pastime “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly find lots of opportunities to level up your repertoire. Even more, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for instructors implies that there’s no scarcity of excellent instructors producing high-quality and new material frequently.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to discover it all!
Communities of similar learners
When you have niche interests like Board Video game Design or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. Between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed instructors, you’re unlocking a gold mine of chance for connection and community building. This is a huge perk for us “nerds” to feel part of something bigger than our own individual efforts AND it permits us to discover not only from the professionals, but from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to produce my account, login, search for material I have an interest in, and find a course that fit the costs. I was diving deep into my first course in less than 20 minutes, excited to find even more content to devour.
Congratulations to Skillshare for making a quickly navigable desktop AND mobile platform, and for including a start/stop performance that synchronizes throughout gadgets.
In between the capability to “preferred” great teachers and save Skillshare classes to tailored lists, not to mention the Discovery area of the Skillshare app, I am never for want of new material to learn. And the truth that I get to discover on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Downsides (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the main downsides of Skillshare:
Not totally available
Not every teacher ROCKS
The advertisements are annoying, so you’ll wish to pay
Not totally available
As I was checking courses and developing my Skillshare evaluation, I was constantly dissatisfied by the absence of closed captioning available on the videos. This basically makes the platform impossible to use for those who are hearing impaired and unable to read lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every instructor ROCKS
The variation in quality of trainers can be a continuous obstacle on your way to understanding gain. Since being able to teach successfully is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to think that every trainer on the platform stands out at the fundamentals of mentor.
A good quality indicator is the number of students a course has actually hosted, as higher numbers tend to associate with higher quality trainers. This isn’t constantly the case– some courses are just specific niche enough to not appeal to the “masses” anyhow.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The chance to find out for knowing’s sake is factor enough for me to soundly proclaim that Skillshare deserves it. The hands-on tasks and ability to get in touch with others, consisting of professionals in your desired fields of knowledge, makes the $14 a month charge a bargain. The onus is on YOU to determine which courses would bring you the most worth, whether you intend to reinforce your resume with gleaming competitive skills or assert yourself as an expert hobbyist.
Skillshare members can acquire far more than just new skills from the courses. You’ll fall for learning once again, satisfy competent and inspired peers that will challenge and influence you, and may find yourself addicted (nay, consumed!) with getting knowledge.
