As an online creator and expert, I’m continuously finding out brand-new skills. Skillshare Personal Branding… to stay up to date with the trade and make customers delighted. To do so, I’ve relied greatly on online knowing over the past 5 years. Generally, when I wish to find out something new, I just go to YouTube and type in a question and hope for the best.
Most of the time, I get videos taught by “specialists” with endless advertisement breaks and pitches to purchase their product. I mean, what else can you anticipate from “free courses.” Recently, fed up with the poor quality and doubtful knowledge shared on totally free platforms, I relied on an online learning platform I keep hearing so much about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality totally free classes, I signed up for a yearly membership (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare rates area) and dove deeper into the Skillshare courses used to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this in-depth evaluation. While some evaluations for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, whatever you will check out comes directly from my own experience as an avid learner.
If you are trying to find a TLDR variation of this evaluation, here it is:
The sheer quantity of new material that is added to the platform weekly is enough to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you wish to get a brand-new skill to make your resume shine, restyle your house, or master a hobby “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly find lots of chances to level up your collection. Further, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for instructors suggests that there’s no shortage of excellent trainers creating brand-new and high-quality material routinely.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to discover all of it!
Communities of similar students
When you have specific niche interests like Board Game Style or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. Between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed trainers, you’re unlocking a gold mine of opportunity for connection and neighborhood building. This is a big perk for us “nerds” to feel part of something larger than our own individual efforts AND it enables us to discover not just from the experts, but from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to develop my account, login, browse for material I have an interest in, and find a course that fit the bill. I was diving deep into my first course in less than 20 minutes, eager to discover a lot more content to feast on.
Kudos to Skillshare for making an easily navigable desktop AND mobile platform, and for including a start/stop performance that syncs throughout gadgets.
In between the capability to “favorite” terrific teachers and save Skillshare classes to personalized lists, not to mention the Discovery section of the Skillshare app, I am never ever for want of new product to discover. And the reality that I get to find out on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Downsides (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the main disadvantages of Skillshare:
Not completely accessible
Not every instructor ROCKS
The ads are frustrating, so you’ll wish to pay
Not completely accessible
As I was checking courses and developing my Skillshare review, I was continuously dissatisfied by the lack of closed captioning offered on the videos. This essentially makes the platform difficult to use for those who are hearing impaired and unable to read lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every instructor ROCKS
The variation in quality of trainers can be a continual difficulty on your way to understanding gain. Since being able to teach effectively is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to think that every instructor on the platform stands out at the essentials of teaching.
A good quality sign is the variety of trainees a course has actually hosted, as higher numbers tend to associate with higher quality trainers. However, this isn’t always the case– some courses are just niche enough to not interest the “masses” anyhow.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The opportunity to learn for learning’s sake is factor enough for me to soundly announce that Skillshare deserves it. The hands-on jobs and ability to get in touch with others, consisting of specialists in your preferred fields of understanding, makes the $14 a month fee a bargain. The onus is on YOU to identify which courses would bring you the most value, whether you aim to boost your resume with sparkling competitive skills or assert yourself as a professional hobbyist.
Skillshare members can get a lot more than just brand-new abilities from the courses. You’ll fall in love with learning once again, meet competent and determined peers that will challenge and inspire you, and might find yourself addicted (nay, obsessed!) with getting knowledge.
